America’s Premier Small Refrigerated Carrier

Grand Island Express is one of America’s most recognized and respected small refrigerated carriers. Serving more than 38 states in the eastern two-thirds of the U.S., Grand Island Express specializes in irregular route, temperature controlled transportation focused on customers that require high-level, time sensitive performance.

In addition to temperature controlled transport, Grand Island Express offers: heavy-duty truck repair, sale and service; truck and trailer wash and washout service; load/trailer hostling.

Our History

Grand Island Express began in 1967 by the Pirnie family as a moving and storage company and is now in its third generation of family ownership and operation. In 1972, the family purchased their first refrigerated trailers and boasts slow, sustainable growth over the last 50 years.

The Pirnie family focus is not to be the biggest truck line, but the best in their niche markets. Grand Island Express is committed to its customers, and specializes in working with small to medium-sized businesses whose needs are growing.

Company Culture

While the trucking industry typically sees high driver turnover, close to 100% annually, Grand Island Express enjoys a high retention rate with drivers, technicians, and support staff.

The secret to low turnover is simple: Grand Island Express treats people with respect, always conducts business with honesty and integrity, and maintains a culture where people are given the freedom to think with creativity and innovation.

Safety is the driving force at Grand Island Express. Over a fourth of Grand Island Express drivers have driven over a million miles accident free. There is no load so important that Grand Island Express cannot deliver it safely. The Grand Island Express safety department ensures drivers receive the most advanced training, tools, and information available to make safety a top priority.

The Fleet

Grand Island Express operates more than 130 power units, 300 semitrailers, and 100 storage trailers. The company tractors are on three-year trade cycles to ensure drivers are in the most advanced, newest equipment possible. The refrigerated trailer fleet is equipped with GPS tracking and refrigerated temperature monitoring to comply with all current food safety regulations.
