Safety Director

General Job Description:

Primary responsibilities of the Safety Director are to ensure safe operation of the motor fleet by coordinating, administering, and implementing comprehensive training programs in transportation and occupational safety. The Safety Director will respond to reported accidents to evaluate current best practices and recommend changes where necessary.

• Supervise several direct reports, including safety assistant, driver recruiter and driver development specialist
• Lead and direct, assign or delegate work on a daily basis, develop and mentor employees and take corrective actions when necessary
• Monitor and reduce company risk of motor vehicle accidents, work comp injuries, and freight claims by trending events and developing, updating and managing safety programs, procedures and policies

•  Crash response and accountability
•  Claim reviews and settlements
•  Final approvals for new driver hires
•  Monthly driver safety meetings based on company trends
•  Annual driver risk assessments

Manage DOT compliance including:

• HOS compliance and violations
• DOT drug testing
• CSA scores
• Licensing/permits

Manage OSHA compliance including:

• Periodic OSHA inspections and mock audits
• OSHA forklift and other equipment training
• Building safety including fire/tornado drills
• Quarterly safety meetings

Program Requirements:

•        Honorable Discharge
•       DD214 with 2 years Active Duty Military experience within the last 5 years

Program Advantages:

1.     Compensation: During our 6 week training period compensation will be $450 a week

2.     Upon completion:  Drivers graduating out of training will be compensated based on years of experience, up to 35cmp

3.     Trainers: With safety an importance with Grand Island Express, all training is done on a one-on-one basis. Our trainers are there to answer any questions and help the transition in to a solo driver the best experience possible. Every new team member is also set up with a Mentor for 90 days so anytime there is a question they are there for you.

Fleet Manager

Job Purpose:

Duties include managing a group of assigned trucks (up to 45 units) to provide operating profits to the company while meeting customer expectations and balancing the home-time and income needs of the drivers.

Essential Functions:

• Book drivers on outbound freight – do all appropriate computer work and ensure drivers have all information necessary to make a successful trip
• Monitor weekly fleet productivity.   Coach low performers as necessary to hit company goals and objectives
• Manage time-off requests and earned vacation
• Protect our assets by managing your fleet safely.  Monitoring driver HOS and miles will help ensure we operate within the scope of the DOT regulations
• Communicate effectively with all appropriate GIX personnel in regards to pickups, deliveries, delays and extra costs
• Serve as GIX’s professional representative when dealing with drivers and customers
• Be proactive to ensure the satisfaction of all stakeholders and to ensure GIX is a valued business partner, by providing premium level customer service
• Take personal ownership and pride in your fleet. See that operational issues are resolved to the satisfaction of the driver and customer
• Be innovative and aggressive with your management approach
• Apply personal ethics, honesty, initiative, and flexibility in carrying out job responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

• Profitability and productivity of your assigned assets
• Uphold all areas of safety including DOT compliance and HOS rules
• Understand and meet customer expectations, GIX commitments, and track performance
• Held accountable for driver retention
• Responsible for building trusting relationships with drivers
• Control operational costs when possible like tolls, off-route, unloading charges
• Ensure equipment is available for preventative maintenance schedules

Inside Sales

General Job Description:

Duties include providing the right amount and kind of freight to help the fleet meet its goals while managing all aspects of customer service operations.  Responsibilities to the fleet include new account growth in identified power lanes, consistent freight volumes year around, and providing freight that meets the needs of the operations group and the drivers.

Essential Functions:

• Maintain and coordinate customer accounts throughout the account life cycle, from newly acquired accounts to existing, long term accounts
• Communicate effectively and professionally with all GIX personnel
• Serve as GIX’s professional representative when dealing with customers and prospects
• Be proactive to ensure customer satisfaction and to ensure GIX is a valued business partner, by providing premium level customer service
• Take final responsibility for seeing that customer issues are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer
• Be innovative and aggressive with your sales approach
• Apply personal ethics, honesty, initiative, and flexibility in carrying out job responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

• Understand current needs of the fleet in regards to growth goals
• Sales call expectations
• Cold calls to new/potential accounts
• Revisiting inactive accounts for new business
• Expanding lanes/opportunities with current accounts
• Sales visits
• Seek new accounts
• To replace low profit accounts
• To add freight during slow months
• Replace accounts lost for other reasons
• Be attuned to changes in the market or industry
• Days outstanding with accounts receivable
• FSC and accessorial programs
• Produce consistent rate increases
• Look for spot rate opportunities
• Understand and meet customer expectations, GIX commitments, and track performance
• Account mix, no more than 3-5% of total business
• Accurate customer load data entry
• Equipment tracking at customer for detention
• Gain knowledge of customers total freight needs
• Coordinate with sales for rate increases
• Work with customer to alter load tenders to fit GIX needs
